Idols, ornaments stolen from Beleghata temple

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kolkata : Police have launched an investigation into a midnight temple burglary in Beleghata after somebody broke into a Kali temple at Ram Krishna Naskar Lane and stole valuable ornaments, idols and other temple articles.

The incident came to light after Santanu Chakraborty (35), a local resident, filed a written complaint at Beleghata Police Station on Tuesday. The stolen items included a stone idol of Laxmi Narayan, two brass idols of Gopal, two Radha Krishna idols, five copper thrones ( singhasan ), brass worship utensils, seven silver crowns ( chura ), a 10-gram gold chain, a 2-gram gold crown ( chura ), the donation ( pronami ) box and cash, according to the complaint. The thief also allegedly damaged an idol of Shani Dev inside the sanctum sanctorum.

Police registered a case under BNS sections 305(d) and 324(2).
