On Wednesday, O’Brien appeared at Shakespeare Sarani Police Station around 10 am to attend the summons served on him. He exited the premises around 2.45 pm. Claiming that police were not uploading FIRs online and withholding legal notices, Ghose said old cases dating back to 2018 and 2019 were being revived by filing fresh complaints.

“This is a conspiracy against TMC activists,” she stated. Saying that her party will challenge police action legally, Ghose said, “This is a violation of human rights. The appearances follow Tuesday’s five-hour-long interrogation of Banerjee. “The way police are being misused in Bengal and the politicisation of law and order are very harmful to democracy. This is not limited to political parties—no citizen is safe if the police are misused in this manner,” Ghose later posted on social media. Referring to the police action against O’Brien, Ghose claimed the MP had been pushed to the ground during the scuffle, and yet a complaint was lodged against him. Kolkata: Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien was questioned by Kolkata Police for over four and a half hours on Wednesday in connection with the violent scuffle at the Camac Street office of party MP Abhishek Banerjee last week. Banerjee’s personal assistant Sumit Roy was questioned at the station on Wednesday. Notices have also been served on former KMC MMiC Baiswanor Chattopadhyay and former MLA Humayun Kabir, directing them to appear for questioning on Thursday. Meanwhile, addressing a news conference in New Delhi on Wednesday, TMC’s deputy leader in Rajya Sabha Sagarika Ghose launched a sharp attack, alleging deliberate misuse of law enforcement mechanisms to target her party.
