Kolkata : In the 2025 high-profile murder of Jharkhand hotelier, Nikhil Sablok, the role of another Kolkata Police personnel posted in the Detective Department at Lalbazar is under scanner. The case is being probed by a Jharkhand Police Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Lalbazar has claimed that the Lalbazar cop was “trapped” with a “fake sob story’ by the two arrested Kolkata Police cops. The conspiracy was engineered by Ashok Singh Raghav, a Jamshedpur-based local media channel operator, who established a relationship with Das through social media, according to the Jharkhand Police SIT. Utilizing her connection, Raghav reached out to Sergeant Gupta to track the hotelier’s real-time movements.
Investigating officials revealed that Beliaghata Traffic Guard sergeant Ayan Gupta, who was arrested earlier along with civic volunteer Twinkle Das (30) from the same guard in connection to the case, obtained Sablok’s mobile tower location through the Detective Department personnel. Sablok was murdered on Aug 24 last year. Lalbazar has already initiated an internal departmental investigation to examine the extent of the officer’s involvement and abuse of official position in unauthorizedly accessing and sharing restricted mobile tower location data.
