The convocation is essentially an extended court meeting,” said Bhattacharjee. Convocation is an important event for the students and the university,” said a teacher. Immediate action needs to be taken on certain matters, like who the chief guest will be and whether honorary degrees will be awarded. For that, clear signals are needed from both the state government and the chancellor. The most important thing is that I need to call an EC meeting and a court meeting. This is the second letter that Bhattacharjee wrote to the department seeking a nod to hold EC meetings and finalise convocation-related matters. JU has got all govt nominees and chancellor nominees on the EC. “CU has recently conducted their syndicate meeting. We do not know why permission is not being granted for JU EC.
