Kolkata: A 33-year-old undertrial, who was lodged at Dum Dum Central Correctional Home, died at RG Kar on Monday night while in judicial custody in connection with a cyber fraud case.
Shubhajit Chakraborty, a resident of Dum Dum, along with 18 others, was arrested by Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police in connection to a fake call centre operation in Sector V on Sept 8. He died around 12.15 am. He was taken to the jail OPD on Sept 17.

His lawyer, Mosharaf Hossain, said Chakraborty was diabetic and the court had earlier directed the correctional home to provide necessary medical care. Bidhannagar subdivision court has ordered a magistrate’s inquiry into the death and directed the jail authorities to submit a medical report within seven days. Download the TOI App.
Chakraborty had been unwell for the past few days and was taken to RG Kar Hospital on Monday night after his condition deteriorated, police said.
