Kolkata: Four Park Street restaurants had their food samples collected and kitchens inspected by civic officials on Thursday afternoon.
Over 40 restaurants in and around Kolkata were shut following inspections that found their storage facilities and kitchens unclean and food items stale.
They collected samples of gravy and marinated kebabs and we have passed with flying colours,” said Pratap Daryanani, owner of Oasis, which received a clean chit after last month’s inspection as well. “We have not been told anything about the result but the last inspection did not find anything,” said Anand Puri of Trincas. This is the busiest time for restaurants and a clean chit from the civic department will help us gain our customers’ confidence,” said Sudesh Poddar, president of the Hotel and Restaurants Association of Eastern India (HRAEI).
A month ago, two Park Street restaurants were shut following a similar inspection by KMC, which found their food and kitchen unhygienic. Many of the restaurants have since reopened. “This was part of a routine inspection, the third one and final one this year. We are glad that it happened with a couple of days to go to the pujas when revellers have already started coming in. “This will help improve food hygiene standards.
