Kolkata: State tourism minister Shankar Ghosh on Tuesday held a meeting with state govt’s cultural adviser and actor Mithun Chakraborty to discuss ways to boost tourism, particularly in North Bengal and the hills.
The govt has received investment proposals worth Rs 3,845 crore in tea tourism and hill resorts, including Rs 915 crore from Arya Tea Company Ltd, Rs 550 crore from MLA Group, Rs 400 crore from Luxmi Group and Rs 390 crore from BLG Group. Ghosh said detailed discussions were held on harnessing the region’s tourism potential. The meeting focused on developing new tourist centres, improving amenities and attracting more visitors to the state. The state govt has recently received several investment proposals for tea tourism and hill resorts in North Bengal. Detailed talks have also been held regarding how to better utilize the immense potential of tourism in North Bengal and the hilly areas, how to develop new tourist centres there, and how to attract more tourists to Bengal. If tourism improves, not only will the number of tourists increase, but employment for local people will also rise and new opportunities will be created for our youth as well,” he posted on social media. State forest and environment minister Manoj Kumar Oraon, MoS home & hill affairs and minority affairs & madrassa education Bishal Lama and tourism MoS Purnima Chakraborty were also present.
