Kolkata: The Thakurpukur police has arrested three men for the alleged gang rape and molestation of a 22-year-old woman in southwest Kolkata. The Netaji Nagar police alerted Thakurpukur police, which thereafter registered the case and arrested the accused. The arrests were made on Sunday after the survivour managed to escape and report the ordeal to the cops at Netaji Nagar police station.
Overwhelmed by fear, she initially only reported that her mobile phone was missing. Cops launched an immediate raid on the Bachar Para home of the accused, leading to the arrest of all three accused.
The main accused, Tinku, was known to the survivour, according to the police. “On Saturday, the woman had met Tinku at his residence located in Bachar Para area under the Thakurpukur police jurisdiction,” said a senior police officer. The arrested persons are Tinku, the main accused, and his aides, Koushik and Babai. Following the sexual assault, the trio allegedly snatched away her mobile phone, withholding it to prevent her from contacting her family or the police. The accused have been charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Terrified and traumatized, the woman initially fled the spot and approached the Netaji Nagar police station.. However, during questioning by the police officers on duty, the woman broke down and narrated the entire sequence of the sexual assault. The Netaji Nagar Police immediately coordinated with the Thakurpukur police station, under whose jurisdiction the crime had occurred. Police are currently interrogating the trio to determine the exact motive behind withholding the phone and to reconstruct the precise sequence of events. Further forensic probes and medical examinations are underway.
An FIR has been registered under Thakurpukur Police Station on Sunday, according to senior police officials. Preliminary interrogation suggests that Koushik and Babai reached the home on Sunday morning.
