Jalpaiguri : Kotwali police on Friday detained a Class 10 student of Jalpaiguri Zilla School for allegedly assaulting headmaster Dharma Chand Barai on Tuesday. He will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Saturday.
The education department had sent Barai on 15 days’ leave after the incident. But we chose to give them TCs so that they could continue with their studies in other schools,” Barman said. The student was identified from a video that went viral, showing him punching Barai from behind, causing the headmaster to stumble and fall, leaving him bleeding. He also asked the school to identify the remaining students involved at the earliest. “It was necessary to give a stern message to the society that such incidents would never be tolerated. We could have come down heavier on the students.
State school education minister Dipak Barman, who visited the school on Friday, directed the authorities to issue transfer certificates (TCs) to four students identified so far for allegedly assaulting Barai.
