Malda: Five people, including three minors, were killed in a road accident on NH-12 in Raiganj, North Dinajpur, early Friday. A mini-truck carrying poultry rammed into the rear of a sand-laden truck in VT area, under Raiganj police station. The sand-laden truck was parked on the road without its driver or helper when the mini-truck hit it from behind. Police suspect the mini-truck driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The deceased were identified as Hablu Momin (15), Siraj Momin (14), Sayem Momin (16), Ramjan Momin (23), and Muktadul Haque (29). Four occupants died on the spot, while the fifth succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. All five were residents of Kaliachak in Malda district. The first four were from Bhagalpur village, while Muktadul, who was driving the mini-truck, was from Kashimnagar in Kaliachak. The group regularly travelled to Raiganj to collect poultry from a farm for sale in Malda and had gone there early Friday.
