Patashpur: A Mamata Trinamool functionary died on Sunday after he was allegedly abducted from his home and assaulted by a group of men in East Midnapore’s Patashpur.
Dismissing claims of a financial dispute angle, Giri said, “These are completely fabricated. Denying all allegations, BJP’s Contai district president Somnath Ray said, “For so long, BJP workers have been the victims of violence… The men allegedly abducted Bag, assaulted him and locked him inside a local sawmill. Police rescued him after the family lodged a complaint. Two men have been arrested. Mamata TMC’s former Ramnagar MLA Akhil Giri alleged BJP involvement, calling the attack a political murder ahead of Nandigram bypoll. This was political. The family alleged that police and local BJP netas pressured them to withdraw the complaint. His death is tragic. If anyone is involved, the police and administration are there, and punishment will be given. BJP MLA Chandranath Mandal added, “Criminals have no political colour. People from our party do not engage in violence. Let the administration investigate.”
A group of six to seven men arrived at the former panchayat pradhan’s home on Thursday evening, according to deceased Bijonbandhu Bag’s family and Mamata TMC netas.
