Kolkata: The state health department has instructed district health officials to file police complaints against administrators and staffers of 64 govt health facilities after the department found massive financial irregularities.
Sources said equipment worth crores of rupees purchased during the Covid pandemic has vanished, the department has found.
The facilities span Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur, Malda, Murshidabad, Bankura, Howrah, West and East Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas, and Burdwan. Swasthya Bhavan has instructed chief medical health officers of 14 districts to find the persons responsible for the maintenance of that equipment, fix accountability, and find out where the equipment disappeared. Sources said the equipment, including ventilators, was procured with funds from the National Health Mission for the care of Covid patients. “Along with the equipment, a large number of computers were also procured to run telemedicine services,” said a source. Download the TOI App.
