Kolkata: Bengal Congress president Subhankar Sarkar has sought clarification from the EC on whether 22.2 lakh voters who have appealed to tribunals against deletion from electoral rolls can file Form 6 applications for re-enrolment during the special enrolment drive.
In a letter to the CEC and two commissioners, Sarkar and SIR committee chairperson Prasenjit Bose said allowing two parallel re-enrolment processes — through appellate tribunals and Form 6 applications to EROs — could cause confusion and discriminate against tribunal appellants if Form 6 applications are processed faster.
The letter also flagged the upcoming Oct 6 bypolls in Nandigram and Rejinagar, where over 6,000 and 12,000 appeals respectively remain pending.
