MUMBAI: Khar Police have registered an FIR against two directors of a financial technologies company for copyright infringement. The FIR was lodged on the basis of a complaint given by an official of a distributor from the media and entertainment industry.

The fintech company based in Khar runs a financial app and portal, according to the FIR. The fintech company has a presence on various social media platforms. The posts were used to market their products. No permission or licence was taken from the complainant. The complainant then sent a legal notice to the fintech company which asked for documents related to the copyright infringement. The complainant asked them to come over to the office to check copyright related documents. But the fintech company did not respond. Last year, it was found that the fintech company had used dialogues and stills from a popular Hindi film ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ to make memes and interactive posts.
