Bengaluru: A 53-year-old man who applied online for a private bank credit card was duped of Rs 81,769 after receiving a call from a person claiming to be a bank representative on Sept 12.
On Sept 12, he received a call from an unknown number. Ali said the caller contacted him from the mobile number +91 7870405631.
The caller, introducing himself as a bank staffer, told him his credit card application had been approved and that he needed to complete a video verification process. A senior officer said, “We’re verifying how the fraudsters got information about the complainant applying for a credit card. The caller asked Ali to display his Aadhaar card , PAN card , and an existing credit card during verification. Banaswadi police have registered a case under IT Act and are investigating. Someone from the bank may have leaked data.
