Madikeri : A young man died after falling from a height while putting up buntings for the Ganesha festival at Chennangolli near Gonikoppa on Friday evening.

The deceased, Ganesh , 28, was a resident of Chennangolli.

He was climbing a pole to decorate it with buntings when he accidentally fell from a considerable height, according to reports. However, police said he succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts. He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment. His death has cast a pall of gloom over the village. He is survived by his mother and two sisters. The deceased, Hemavathi, was the wife of Machamada Nanaiah, a resident of Tavalageri village in T Shettigeri. After learning about the incident, residents rushed to the spot and retrieved the body. A case has been registered at Srimangala police station.

In a separate incident, a woman drowned after slipping into a pond while feeding fish at T Shettigeri village on Saturday.
