He said the padayatra would continue to Vidhana Soudha and urged the govt to immediately release the pending pensions. Bengaluru: Opposition leader R Ashoka Sunday demanded that the state govt put up a signboard declaring that the treasury was empty and it had no money to pay pensions to persons with disabilities and acid attack victims. Ashoka made the remarks at Kanminike after joining a padayatra from Ramanagara to Bengaluru by persons with disabilities and acid attack victims, who are demanding the clearance of their five-month pension arrears. Questioning the deployment, Ashoka alleged that the govt was using the police force to suppress the peaceful protest rather than address the beneficiaries’ demands. He also criticised police over their alleged failure to act against terrorists and identify illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. He warned that detaining persons with disabilities for demanding their rightful dues would bring disrepute to the state. He assured the protesters that BJP would stand by them until their demands were met and justice was delivered. Download the TOI App.
