Emphasising punctuality and discipline, he said doctors should set an example for their staff. The issue of regularising doctors who have served on a contractual basis for three to five years would be discussed with the CM, and suitable action would be taken, he said. “Better healthcare services can be delivered only when doctors and staff work together as a team and support one another like a family,” he said. Orders had already been issued to fill these positions at the earliest, he said. He said an order would soon be issued to hold district health officers (DHOs) and taluk health officers (THOs) accountable if negligence was found in taking action against such practitioners.
He urged doctors working at PHCs to treat their centres as their own institutions and discharge their duties with commitment and efficiency. He added that steps would be taken to allow doctors with a proven record of good service to continue at their present postings. Khader advised taluk-level doctors to maintain close coordination with voluntary organisations and elected representatives to secure additional facilities for hospitals. Along with professional responsibilities, doctors should also focus on improving their administrative skills, he added. The minister noted that most vacancies in the district’s govt healthcare system had been filled and that only a few MBBS doctor posts remained vacant. He also assured that the shortage of dialysis facilities at taluk hospitals would be addressed immediately. With patient numbers increasing at the district hospital, measures were being taken to expand its capacity, he added. Khader warned that strict legal action would be initiated against fake doctors. He observed that if physical education teachers remained fit and active, it would have a positive impact on both the school environment and students. Download the TOI App.
