Belagavi : The Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) has launched a large-scale remeasurement drive of industrial and commercial properties to curb revenue leakage and improve property tax collection.
BCC has set a property tax collection target of Rs 85-90 crore for the year. The drive covers key industrial and commercial zones, including Udyambag, Auto Nagar and Ward 18 along Khanapur Road. More than 8,500 industrial and commercial properties fall under the corporation’s jurisdiction.
Officials suspect several industrial and commercial establishments are paying taxes based on a lower built-up area than what is actually in use.

Officials said the exercise will also verify the actual use of buildings and identify inconsistencies in property details. BCC commissioner M Karthik said the drive is aimed at determining the correct tax liability and preventing tax evasion. Special teams have been formed in all three revenue zones and are working under the supervision of zonal commissioners, with the southern revenue zone leading the exercise. The focus is on large industrial units and commercial establishments. Teams are verifying declared areas against physical measurements, identifying commercial properties registered as residential buildings, detecting unassessed structures and examining property records. He added that property tax assessments will be revised wherever discrepancies are found, and dues will be recovered as per rules. Download the TOI App.
