Because farming activities depended heavily on water availability: The wider industry impact

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Yadgir: Yadgir district bandh called by farmers’ and public organisations demanding continuous water release into left- and right-bank canals of Basavasagar reservoir at Narayanpur until Nov 30 received a mixed response in the city on Friday.

Because farming activities depended heavily on water availability, they maintained that continuous release until Nov 30 was essential to protect crops and livelihoods. Stay updated with the latest Hubballi news.

Farmers said inadequate and irregular water supply to the canals could adversely affect agriculture. Former minister Raju Gowda led the bandh, which gathered momentum early in the morning. Several shops and commercial establishments along major roads and in business areas voluntarily closed in support, bringing activity to a standstill in major markets. Public movement was considerably lower than usual. Leaders and activists gathered at prominent circles and roads across the city and staged protests. At locations including Subhash Chandra Bose Circle, protesters appealed to the public to support the bandh. Traders and various organisations supported the farmers’ demand for their rightful share of water. Download the TOI App.
