Bengaluru: The city saw the deportation of 160 Bangladeshi nationals Wednesday morning, with a special flight taking them out as police coordinated with Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Border Security Force ( BSF ) and Indian Air Force . A senior officer said a few police personnel, including six officers, escorted the Bangladeshis on the flight, which departed from HAL airport around 9.30 am. FRRO had written a letter to the DCP, Intelligence, Bengaluru, on Sept 18, requesting the deputation of police personnel for escort duty. Bellanduru police station had caught 50 Bangladeshi nationals, followed by Varthuru with 29, Beguru with 24 and Marathahalli with 17, according to the police. Kadugodi accounted for 12 persons, Electronic City nine, Chikkamagaluru police five, Banasawadi four and Bandepalya three. Gadag and Kothanuru police had caught two persons each, while Bagaluru, Ramamurthynagar and Whitefield police had caught one person each, taking the total to 160 persons.
Police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said these Bangladeshi nationals were caught staying illegally during the special drive. They were deported on the special flight from HAL,” he said. “This is one of the largest numbers of deportations in recent days across the country, and it is a success story for the entire city police’s efforts,” a senior officer said.
“We coordinated with the Air Force officials for the special flight, while FRRO coordinated with the BSF. The flight will land at the BSF battalion concerned on the border. Once the Bangladeshis are handed over to the BSF, the city police will return to the city on a regular flight.
