He claimed the govt had borrowed over Rs 4 lakh crore, taking the state’s total liabilities close to Rs 8 lakh crore. The BJP leader questioned the govt’s announcement of projects worth Rs 32,000 crore despite its financial position, terming them publicity-driven promises. Nagaraj demanded that CM Siddaramaiah release a white paper detailing the state’s debts, liabilities, pending bills and funds available for announced schemes.
District BJP president Mellekatte Nagaraj, addressing protesters, alleged that heavy borrowing, delayed welfare payments and stalled development works had strained the treasury. Nagaraj alleged that the cash crunch had delayed pensions for senior citizens, widows and persons with disabilities. He also criticised the education department over poor-quality uniforms and shoes, teacher vacancies and alleged delays in salary payments. Protesters marched from the BJP office to the assistant commissioner’s office. The Congress govt did not immediately respond to the allegations.
Davanagere : BJP leaders and workers staged a protest in Davanagere on Friday, accusing the Congress govt of pushing Karnataka into a financial crisis and demanding a white paper on the state’s finances.
