Haveri: A two-decade-old property dispute allegedly culminated in the murder of a woman and her son in broad daylight at Kusanur village in Hangal taluk of Haveri district.
The dispute began nearly 20 years ago after Tirakayya Hiremath and Basavaraj Hosamath allegedly purchased a house and vacant land from Prema, according to police and villagers.
Police said the court ruled in favour of Prema and Avinash on the day of the incident. Police said the confrontation turned violent, with the accused allegedly attacking the duo with stones, killing them on the spot. A dispute over payment followed, and attempts to resolve the issue through mediation failed. Both sides subsequently approached the court. Soon afterwards, an argument reportedly broke out between the two sides near Malagunda Cross. Following the court order, the mother and son later went to Kusanur in connection with vacating the disputed house, where another altercation broke out. The accused reportedly remained near the bodies for some time before fleeing. Adur police have registered a case and formed teams to trace the accused. Police have seized a stone suspected to have been used in the killings and collected other evidence from the spot.
