CM DK Shivakumar at the 35th death anniversary of Sri Shivakumara Shivacharya Swamiji at Taralabalu Math on Thursday
Chitradurga: Chief minister DK Shivakumar said the Taralabalu Jagadguru institutions and Sirigere Matha had transformed lives through education, irrigation, farmer support, social service and religion.
He also asked govts to remove policy restrictions hindering public welfare, and urged political leaders to rise above party lines, especially on farmers’ issues.
Speaking at the valedictory of the 35th death anniversary tribute to Sri Shivakumara Shivacharya Swamiji at Taralabalu Math, he said religious values and samskara remained vital for society. The matha, he said, had shown that service is the highway to dharma while serving all communities with secular commitment. Shivakumar said he was pursuing irrigation issues with the Centre, and exploring proper use of Cauvery, Krishna and Godavari waters. Referring to a Vijay Karnataka article, he said such a system would ensure fair compensation to affected farmers. He said its people’s court tradition complemented formal justice mechanisms and addressed grievances locally.
He praised its role in education, social responsibility and justice, noting that its students were serving across India and abroad. He assured priority to drought-hit Chitradurga, saying Bhadra water had begun flowing toward the district and would be extended further. Irrigation minister N Cheluvarayaswamy praised the matha’s continuing social guidance.
