Depending on the severity of the drought, the loan repayment tenure can be extended from 36 months to 60 months. The relief measure will remain in force from Oct 11, 2026, to Jan 9, 2027. The govt issued directions in this regard to banks during the District Consultative Committee and District-Level Bankers’ Committee meeting held on Sept 9, 2026.

Koppal: Farmers in drought-affected parts of Koppal district can defer repayment of agricultural loans obtained from nationalised banks for up to one year under Reserve Bank of India guidelines, deputy commissioner Suresh B Itnalsaid. The facility covers loans taken for agricultural activities, including Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans, crop loans, dairy loans, sericulture loans, fisheries loans and other agriculture-linked borrowings. The govt has declared Gangavathi, Kanakagiri, Kukanur, and Karatagitaluks drought-hit following a severe rainfall deficit, while the process of declaring the remaining three taluks drought-affected is under way. Farmers can also avail fresh loans in addition to postponing repayment of existing borrowings. The govt has also directed banks to adopt a special approach while implementing loan recovery measures. Farmers in taluks that may be declared drought-hit in the coming days will also become eligible for the benefits once the notification is issued.
