Diabetes and obesity are major risk factors for heart disease, he said, adding that the health department is conducting awareness and screening programmes to detect lifestyle diseases early. Cardiac surgeon Dr Sai Suraj Kotera said prevention should remain the priority despite advances in treatment. He urged recovered patients to become “community ambassadors” and encourage others to undergo timely screening and regular health check-ups.

Dharwad : Patients who bounced back to normal life after cardiac surgeries and treatment shared their recovery journeys and thanked doctors at a Cardiac Benevolent Meet organised by SDM Narayana Heart Centre ahead of World Heart Day. Senior cardiologist Dr Vivekananda Gajapati warned that heart disease can remain symptomless for years and strike suddenly, including among young adults.

Held in association with SDM College of Physiotherapy, the programme brought together former cardiac patients, doctors and health experts to promote heart health and early detection of cardiovascular diseases. Patients recalled their struggles before treatment, anxiety over their condition and how timely medical intervention helped them recover.
