Puneethkumar Shigli
Haveri: Haveri police are investigating the alleged murder of Puneethkumar Shigli, a resident of Kodiyala Hosapete village in Ranebennur taluk, reportedly linked to his inter-community marriage.
Puneethkumar had married a woman of his choice through a registered marriage in 2024 despite opposition from her family, according to a complaint lodged by his relatives. On Sept 7, Puneethkumar was allegedly assaulted and threatened while playing volleyball near the Gangaparameshwari Temple. Subsequently, under alleged family pressure, the woman sought a divorce, leading to tensions between the two families. His family claimed that the accused warned him against marrying a woman from their community. Later that night, he reportedly left home and went missing.
The family has also sought an investigation into the possible role of Puneethkumar’s wife and her brothers, police said. Family members identified the deceased based on clothes found nearby, including a red-and-blue checked shirt and a pair of black bermuda shorts. Police have registered a case against seven persons, including Chandrappa Bhimanna Goneppanavar. The case has been transferred to Kumarapatna police for further investigation.
