Temple Offerings: Foreign currency notes and coins recovered from the hundi of Nagavi Yellamma Temple in Chittapur taluk of Kalaburagi district

Kalaburagi : Foreign currency and coins from several countries were found while counting the hundi at the historic Nagavi Yellamma Temple, which yielded Rs 16 lakh in offerings collected over the past six months. Talking to TOI, Nagayya said offerings made by devotees between Feb 22 and Aug 27 were counted. The counting was conducted Thursday under the supervision of Temple Committee president and tahsildar Nagayya Hiremath. Currencies from Korea, Canada, the UAE, and the USA, along with US coins, were found.

Foreign currency recovered from the donation box included 10,000 Korean Won (equivalent to 5 Singapore Dollars), UAE Dirham notes of 5 and 10 denominations, and US banknotes of various denominations. The total Indian value of the foreign currency amounts to Rs 17,140.9. The value of the US coins is estimated at around Rs 1,000.
