Davanagere : Karnataka Rakshana Vedike staged a road blockade near Modi Circle on Friday, demanding the immediate arrest of those who allegedly vandalised portraits of national and state icons installed as part of its cultural awareness initiatives.
The organisation said unidentified miscreants damaged the portraits on the night of Oct 28.
He said the Vedike has spent nearly three decades promoting Karnataka’s land, language, culture and heritage, and educating youth about the achievements of eminent personalities. The display featured freedom fighters, Karnataka unification leaders, Jnanpith awardees and cultural icons, including Mahatma Gandhi , BR Ambedkar, Bhagat Singh, Kittur Rani Chennamma, Dr Rajkumar, Dr Vishnuvardhan, Shankar Nag and Puneeth Rajkumar. District president MS Ramegowda condemned the act and urged police to identify and prosecute those responsible. The organisation also expressed concern over inadequate CCTV coverage at Modi Circle despite previous complaints to police. It sought a site inspection by senior officers, proper camera alignment and enhanced security measures to prevent similar incidents. Several office-bearers and women’s wing members joined the protest.
