KEA seeks inquiry after marks discrepancy raises questions — VAO exam

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Haveri: Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has ordered an investigation after questions were raised on social media over how a Haveri district candidate who scored 25 marks in the Karnataka State Reserve Police constable examination secured 151 marks in the village administrative officer recruitment examination.

Shankar Bannur, a Haveri district resident, took the examination at Shiggaon centre on Oct 4. It was scanned on Oct 5 and uploaded to KEA website. Bannur passed the second-year Pre-University Course examination in 2013. However, KEA server records showed he had subsequently modified his KSRP examination application to state that he had passed the examination in 2026, Prasanna said.

KEA information showed Bannur personally visited the centre and took the test, which was confirmed through facial recognition technology. Stay updated with the latest Hubballi news. KEA executive director H Prasanna asked Haveri DC, who is also district chief examination superintendent, to review CCTV footage, comprehensively investigate possible irregularities at the examination centre and submit a report. The DC was also instructed to lodge a police complaint if necessary. Social media users questioned how a candidate with an unremarkable academic record secured the high score and raised suspicions of corruption in the recruitment process. His OMR answer sheet was found to be in order. When he applied for the post, the information matched data available with department of PU education through online verification. Download the TOI App.
