HEALTH CONCERNS: Dead fish spotted inBhima River contaminated with wastageflowing in from the industrial area
The industrial area, which houses more than 50 chemical factories, has come under scrutiny from locals over waste management. Because of waste generated by the factories, speaking to TOI, Joldadagi villager Sannakeppa said though govt established the industrial area for public benefit, surrounding villages were now facing problems. Yadgir : Residents of villages around Kadechur-Badiyal industrial area have alleged that chemical-laden wastewater from factories is flowing through drains into a local stream before entering Bhima River, raising concerns over pollution and its impact on people, livestock and aquatic life. Residents of Joldhadagi and Gondadagi alleged that untreated wastewater from factories was being discharged into drains and eventually making its way into Bhima River. Locals alleged that discharge from the industrial area was polluting river water and causing anxiety among communities dependent on it. They feared continued contamination could affect residents, livestock and aquatic life and sought immediate intervention by authorities to prevent further pollution. Residents also raised objections to Mother Earth’s medical waste dumping yard located in the industrial area. Social activist Siddappa urged authorities to implement proper measures to prevent industrial wastewater from entering the river. Download the TOI App.
He sought immediate action against improper discharge and better waste management before the alleged pollution resulted in serious consequences for people, livestock and aquatic life in the region.
They alleged that foul odour emanating from the waste was causing problems for people living in surrounding villages and demanded measures to address the issue.
