Hubballi : Over 250 public sector bank branches in Dharwad district functioned normally on Sunday, helping customers complete urgent transactions ahead of a three-day nationwide bank strike scheduled from Sept 28 to 30. 83 of the 250 public sector bank branches will remain operational from Sept 28 to 30, managed by probationary staff, according to bank data. The move was aimed at preventing extended disruption to banking services due to the strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU).
Basavaraj Gadadavar, lead bank manager, told TOI that Sunday operations were approved by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) following instructions from the Department of Financial Services under the Union finance ministry. These include SBI’s Dharwad Main and Hubballi branches, besides select branches of Indian Bank, Federal Bank, IDBI Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank and others.
