Probe sting charge or confronts suspicion, Bommai tells CM

Gadag : Haveri MP Basavaraj Bommai on Friday said chief minister DK Shivakumar must order a thorough investigation into the alleged sting operation, warning that failure to probe an issue raised by the CM himself would invite suspicion.

He referred to the Supreme Court’s 50% ceiling in the Indra Sawhney case and the subsequent 10% reservation for economically weaker sections.

Speaking to reporters, Bommai said Shivakumar had initiated the discussion and should ensure the truth emerged. He urged media organisations and journalists to report facts rather than unsubstantiated information and said the probe should lead to legal action against those responsible. On reservation for Scheduled Castes, Bommai said Karnataka could secure justice if the govt effectively presented its case before court, citing higher reservation quotas in Tamil Nadu and other states.

“This is not an issue where the CM can make a statement and then go about his business. He has spoken about his cabinet colleagues. If he remains silent, what will happen to their position?” he asked. Bommai alleged a larger conspiracy behind the creation and circulation of fake news through YouTube and other platforms.

On Congress’ protest against Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, Bommai accused the party of blaming the Election Commission and EVMs out of frustration over electoral defeats.
