Ranya Rao’s temple visit
Ranya was arrested in March 2025 at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru after arriving from Dubai. Hassan : Actress Ranya Rao , out on bail in a gold smuggling case, visited Hasanamba temple here Saturday with her family in a protocol vehicle accompanied by police personnel, raising questions about the arrangements made for the visit. Ranya travelled from the govt guest house to the temple with her father, retired DGP Ramachandra Rao, and other family members. Protocol staff and police personnel accompanied them. As Ranya approached the temple, media personnel tried to question and photograph her. She gestured to indicate that she would not respond and proceeded for darshan. She was later detained under the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act and spent over a year in prison before securing bail.
Protocol officer V Manjunath, however, said the vehicle was registered in the name of Ramachandra Rao and its use was in accordance with prescribed arrangements. There is no question of any violation of protocol,” he said. “Five people, including him, were permitted to travel to and from the temple in the vehicle. His family members were given the facility.
