Mysuru: BJP state president BY Vijayendra said Congress was apprehensive about Prime Minister Narendra Modi returning to power for a fourth consecutive term, and was attempting to create political instability to prevent it. He also asserted that leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi would never become the PM.

Rahul Gandhi has been harbouring this ambition, but it will never become a reality,” he said, adding BJP had launched the campaign to create public awareness against Congress’s attempts to undermine democratic institutions.

Defending the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, he said the exercise was necessary to ensure clean and accurate voter lists by removing duplicate, deceased and shifted voters. He alleged that Congress functionaries, not being able to accept the country’s progress under Modi’s leadership, were resorting to protests and political manoeuvres out of fear. “Some people dream of becoming the PM at least once in their lifetime. He accused parties that had failed to win elections through democratic means of attempting to gain power through other methods. MLC and former minister CT Ravi and others were present. The factionalism in the party’s district unit exploded again in front of the state leaders as tension briefly surfaced during BJP city president L Nagendra’s welcome address when party workers objected to the delayed mention of former MP Pratap Simmha’s name. The workers insisted that Nagendra acknowledge Simmha, prompting the city president to intervene and pacify them. As the supporters remained firm, Nagendra welcomed Simmha too. The party’s state president, Vijayendra, who was seated on the dais, witnessed the developments.

Addressing the party’s Mysuru divisional-level rally organised under the theme ‘Save Democracy, Say No to Anarchy’ at the Town Hall premises here on Friday, Vijayendra accused the Congress of attempting to create unrest across the country by misleading people and mobilising youths against the Union govt.
