Belagavi : Deputy chief minister G Parameshwara has announced that the first phase of drought relief measures will commence immediately across drought-affected regions of Karnataka , with the agriculture, revenue, and rural development and panchayat raj (RDPR) departments directed to begin relief works without delay.

Parameshwara said additional reports detailing drought losses will be submitted to the Centre in phases. He clarified that the current assistance is only the initial phase, and not the final relief package. These reports will collectively present the full extent of damage and the state’s relief requirements.
Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Parameshwara said the state govt is releasing the first instalment of drought assistance to provide immediate relief to farmers and affected communities.
The DCM also revealed that the govt is planning to take an all-party delegation to New Delhi under the leadership of the chief minister to seek additional assistance.
Highlighting the limitations of existing relief norms, Parameshwara said the state has repeatedly urged the Centre to relax the guidelines of the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). He said the state would continue exerting pressure on the Centre to revise the norms and provide greater support, stressing that farmers and drought-affected communities require urgent assistance amid worsening conditions. The delegation has planned to meet the Prime Minister and the Union home minister to press Karnataka’s case for enhanced drought relief.
