Mysuru: Karnataka energy minister KJ George has said there was no question of imposing load-shedding in the state at present, asserting the govt was managing a power shortage of around 1,000 MW by procuring electricity from other states.
Even when the state was ready to purchase power, the required quantum was not always available in the market due to shortages across the country, he said. There was a minor disruption for a couple of days last week due to a technical problem, but power is being supplied for both agricultural and domestic purposes,” he said.
The minister said efforts were continuing to procure power from other states and increase the capacity of existing generation units. He said adequate arrangements would be made to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Mysuru Dasara . “There’s no load-shedding in the State. If the situation worsened in the coming days, then the govt would assess it and take a decision in consultation with chief minister DK Shivakumar , he added.
George told reporters here on Saturday that power shortage had persisted for nearly seven months and was not confined to Karnataka.
