SUCI protest
Dharwad : Members of the Socialist Unity Centre of India-Communist (SUCI-C) staged a protest at Vivekananda Circle on Saturday against the state’s recent Rs 8-per-litre milk price hike and the proposed increase in bus fares. Stay updated with the latest Hubballi news.
Protesters said the milk price hike had come at a time when people were already grappling with drought conditions and rising prices of essential commodities. He said the govt should provide subsidised fodder, cattle feed and other inputs to dairy farmers and reduce avoidable expenditure within the Karnataka Milk Federation. They urged the govt to adopt alternative measures to support dairy farmers instead of burdening consumers. SUCI-C Dharwad district secretary Lakshman Jadagannavar alleged that the price revision was pushed in the name of helping milk producers. Jadagannavar argued that increasing prices alone would fuel inflation and affect consumers, particularly children for whom milk is an essential source of nutrition. He also called on the state and Union govts to address unemployment and rising living costs. Presiding over the protest, district committee member Sharanu Gonavar opposed the proposed bus fare hike, terming it anti-people. Several SUCI-C leaders and activists participated in the demonstration. Download the TOI App.
