The prize carries Rs 5 lakh and a citation. Bengaluru: Mahan Mj, professor at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research’s School of Mathematics in Mumbai, has been selected for the inaugural KRS Sastry Prize instituted by Indian Institute of Science ’s department of mathematics. The six-member jury of international mathematicians recognised Mahan for his contributions to geometry, groups, dynamics and probability.
Born in West Bengal in 1968, Mahan received his master’s degree from IIT Kanpur in 1992 and completed his PhD at University of California, Berkeley, in 1997.
