Hosapete (Vijayanagara): More than 2,230 public Ganesha idols are being installed across Vijayanagara district this year, and elaborate security arrangements have been made for the festival, Superintendent of Police S Jahnavi said.
440 public idols are being installed in the Hosapete subdivision, 807 in Kudligi and 983 in Harapanahalli, according to the SP. To maintain law and order, the district police have deployed one SP, three DSPs, 14 inspectors, 27 PSIs, 76 ASIs, and 591 head constables and constables. They will be assisted by 450 home guards, three KSRP platoons, eight DAR platoons, around 250 volunteers and retired officials. Security surveillance has been strengthened through 502 additional CCTV cameras, apart from nearly 4,200 cameras already installed across the district. Police have also conducted a parade of 225 rowdy-sheeters and issued warnings. 14 to Sept. 28. As per the immersion schedule, 64 public idols were immersed on the first day and 1,432 on the third day. Another 674 idols will be immersed on the fifth day, 22 on the seventh day, 29 on the ninth day, four on the eleventh day, five on the thirteenth day and one on the fifteenth day.

Jahnavi said social media platforms are being closely monitored and action will be taken against those posting content that could disturb communal harmony. Private and other cameras along procession routes will also be utilised. Fire tenders, ambulances, swimmers and lighting facilities have been arranged at immersion points. The district administration has reiterated that DJ sound systems and high-decibel sound equipment will not be permitted during the festival. The ban will remain in force from Sept.
