Dharwad : Hubballi-Dharwad City Police have registered six criminal cases against DJ sound system owners and operators for allegedly violating prescribed noise limits during Ganesha festival processions on Sept 14. Cases were booked under Sections 125 and 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 36, 37 and 109 of the Karnataka Police Act.
Police said repeated warnings and notices had been issued to Ganesh mandals and DJ operators to comply with permissible sound levels. However, some processions reportedly used high-decibel DJ and Dolby sound systems, causing inconvenience to the public, senior citizens, patients and hospitals. One case was registered at APMC (Navanagar) police station, one at Dharwad Sub-Urban police station, two at Vidyagiri police station and two at Dharwad Town police station. APMC police booked a case against the owner and operator of SS DJ Sound System. Dharwad Sub-Urban police registered a case against Maha Bal Ganapati Temple procession organisers. Vidyagiri police registered two cases: one against DJ owner Nandini and operator Praveen Havale for allegedly using a Dolby sound system in Navanagar, and another against DJ owner Halimant Iliger of Koppal and the operator for using a high-decibel sound system during the Shreemanagar procession. Dharwad Town police registered two cases, one against the owner and operator of Big Daddy Sound System in Jakanakoppa and another against sound system owner Prasanna Kambli and the DJ operator on KCB Road. Police appealed to organisers of Ganesha festival celebrations to strictly follow noise regulations and avoid using sound systems beyond permitted decibel limits.
