Bengaluru : The tragedy at the swimming pool of Conrad Hotel in Ulsoor, which claimed the lives of a German and a Slovak national and left two others injured, could have been far worse had the suspected electrical leakage spread beyond a confined section of the pool. Soon after the incident, police alerted the jurisdictional engineer of Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (Bescom), following which the matter was referred to the electrical inspectorate. Electrical engineers visited the hotel and inspected the electrical transmission network and power supply systems connected to the swimming pool. During the preliminary inspection, engineers suspected that the underwater lighting system could have been the source of the electrical fault. Meanwhile, Bescom officials clarified that since the hotel falls under the High Tension (HT) consumer category, the utility has no responsibility for the internal electrical distribution network within the hotel premises. “Our responsibility in the case of HT consumers is limited to ensuring the supply of electricity up to their premises. The internal electrical distribution network, including wiring and installations, is the responsibility of the hotel management.
