On Friday evening, two individuals lost their lives, and another was injured due to lightning strikes in the Saoner police station area of Nagpur district. This tragic incident occurred amid severe weather conditions, including heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms that affected the region.
In the first incident, 25-year-old Sahil Shah Abdul Sattar, a resident of Taj Nagar, Teka Naka in Nagpur, was struck by lightning while cutting branches from a tree at a relative’s house in Sarvodaya Nagar behind water tank in Saoner. Police said the two deceased were first cousins. He died on the spot. Separate accidental death cases have been registered and investigations are underway. Download the TOI App.
Mustaq Sheikh Gulam Sheikh, 40, a resident of Chichpura near Shahi Masjid, died after being pinned under the tree. One person escaped unharmed while one Sachin Diyewar, 25, a resident of of Gadegaon, suffered hand fracture and was shifted to a Nagpur hospital. Minutes later, lightning struck a mango tree near MSEB office, causing it to fall onto Kaman garage. Three persons were trapped beneath the tree.
