Akola : The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) food safety team seized 593kg of expired ghee from two food establishments in Akola city during inspections conducted on Sept 16 and 17.
The first action was carried out on Sept 16 at Purva Marketing in Adarsh Colony. The team seized 458kg of the stock, valued at around Rs80,000. On Sept 17, the team inspected Liladhar Jagjivan, where 135kg of expired ghee was found allegedly stored for sale.

During the inspection, officials found different varieties of expired ghee allegedly kept for sale. The stock was subsequently seized. The FDA has initiated further action against the establishments concerned as per the applicable food safety regulations. The action comes during the Ganesh festival and the upcoming festive season, when demand for ghee and other food products generally increases. The FDA’s inspections are aimed at checking the quality and safety of food products being offered for sale and preventing the distribution of expired or non-compliant products.
