49,803 Ganesh idols had either been collected or immersed in the PCMC limits between September 14 and September 23, according to civic data. These include 10,170 eco-friendly idols and 39,633 plaster-of-Paris idols. The civic body has collected 22,647.25 kg of nirmalya so far and granted permission to 388 Ganesh mandals. A total of 101 immersion tanks have been prepared across the twin-city region.
Officials said adequate staff have been stationed at immersion locations to assist devotees, while power backup systems have been arranged at vulnerable spots. City Under Watch Fire brigade teams will remain stationed at river ghats throughout the immersion process, while road department officials said repair and tarring work on major procession routes has been completed following a recent inspection drive. From CCTV surveillance and floodlit procession routes to immersion tanks, medical teams and thousands of sanitation workers, authorities say the city is geared up for one of its biggest public events of the year. Civic authorities have also appealed to mandals and citizens to avoid illegal electricity connections and refrain from drawing power from streetlight and electric poles during the processions. PCMC Mirrors Preparations Similar arrangements have been made by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), which has deployed medical teams comprising doctors, nurses and support staff, along with ambulances at immersion sites for emergency response. Pune: As the city prepares to bid farewell to Bappa on Friday, the civic machinery is shifting into high gear.
A review meeting chaired by civic officials on Thursday assessed preparations across all 15 ward offices, with instructions to ensure uninterrupted services through the day and night. At the heart of the preparations are 38 designated visarjan ghats, supported by 58 temporary immersion tanks. In addition, PMC has installed 305 iron tanks at more than 250 locations across the city to facilitate the immersion of household Ganesh idols and reduce pressure on riverfront sites. More than 4,000 sanitation workers will be engaged in cleaning roads, procession routes, immersion points and ghats through Friday and Saturday. More than 390 CCTV cameras at 94 locations will provide round-the-clock monitoring of key procession routes and immersion sites. The city has also installed over 4,100 floodlights at more than 275 locations to ensure visibility through the night. Parking At 26 Locations For devotees arriving in private vehicles, temporary parking facilities for two-wheelers and four-wheelers have been created at 26 locations across the city.
Trains are scheduled at five-minute intervals, while crowd-control measures have been introduced at key stations. As the chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya” echo across the city, Pune’s civic agencies face their biggest logistical test of the festival. The civic body has deployed a massive workforce to handle the aftermath of the celebrations. Security and crowd management have received special attention this year. Watchtowers have been erected at major congregation points, including Alka Talkies Chowk, SP College Chowk and Shanipar Chowk, allowing authorities to monitor crowd movement from elevated positions. To ease travel for lakhs of devotees expected to participate in or witness the processions, Pune Metro services will operate round-the-clock from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Separate entry and exit arrangements will be available at PCMC, Deccan Gymkhana, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Garden, SNDT, Garware College and PMC stations. Similar arrangements are already in place at Mandai station. Authorities have urged commuters to avoid unnecessary crowding at Mandai station, which is expected to witness heavy footfall through the day. The sites include school and college grounds in central Pune as well as open spaces along key roads near the procession route.
