Pending new connections will also be released. Nagpur: In view of prevailing drought conditions, the state govt has cleared restoration of disconnected electricity supply to public water supply schemes of urban and rural local bodies.
A GR issued by the energy department on Oct 30 provides the relief with conditions, including certificates from the collector or the chief executive officer that tankers are not supplying water in the area and that a usable water source is available. The GR said the decision follows a recommendation by the cabinet sub-committee headed by the revenue minister, which met on Oct 27 to review the drought situation and suggest measures. On Sept 25, he held a review meeting with Chandrapur collector Vasumana Pant to assess the defunct schemes and sought urgent administrative intervention.
Because of arrears, the body must pay the connection charge as per rules, after which the connection is to be given, for new connections held up. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd ( MSEDCL ) has been told to issue the necessary instructions urgently. To restore a cut connection, the local body that owns the scheme must pay a security deposit equal to one month’s electricity bills along with a reconnection fee, the GR stated. The GR added that the deposit and the fees can be paid from District Planning Committee (DPDC) funds, scarcity funds, 16th Finance Commission funds or any other fund. The local body must pay the first and every later monthly bill on time, and any matter pending in court is to be dealt with as per the court’s decision. As per the order, the measures will apply only for the drought period as per govt orders. Ballarpur MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar was among the legislators who pushed for the move. He raised the issue at both district and state levels. He then submitted a representation to CM Devendra Fadnavis and discussed the matter with chief secretary Rajesh Aggarwal.
