Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A car-borne gang allegedly specialising in goat thefts crashed the getaway vehicle into an SUV while fleeing with three stolen goats in Beed district. One suspect was arrested, while two others escaped.
The incident occurred around 1 am on Monday near Belgaon Phata. The total seized property is valued at Rs 4.5 lakh. Gevrai police booked the suspects under BNS sections 303(2), 125(a), 281 and 324(4).
Police said the three suspects, all from Nevasa taluka in Ahilyanagar district, had removed the front and rear number plates of their car (Swift). “One accused, Rahul Gade, has been arrested, while we are searching for the other two,” Beed SP Navneet Kanwat said. The complainant heard his goats bleating and spotted three men fleeing in a white car with three goats, Gevrai inspector Kishore Pawar said. Police said the suspects sped away but crashed into an oncoming SUV. Gade hid nearby but was caught by police with the help of villagers,” Pawar said. Police said the two absconding suspects have been identified and a search is underway.
The complainant alerted relatives at Ram Nagar Tanda and they chased the car. Both vehicles were damaged. “Two suspects fled under cover of darkness. Police seized the car and recovered the three goats. Head constable Sundar Rathod is investigating the case.
