A Shiv Sena councillor and the husband of an NCP councillor were killed, and at least 10 people were injured in the violence. Two FIRs have been registered at the Deulgaon Raja police station, and 20 people from both sides have been arrested,” Buldhana SP Nilesh Tambe told TOI .

Police said the two sides attacked each other with sticks, knives and iron rods just outside the police station gate. “One of the deceased is Shiv Sena councillor Anwar Sheikh, and the other is Arif Pathan, the husband of an NCP councillor. Sheikh and Pathan suffered serious injuries and died while being shifted for treatment. Some children and youths from the two groups allegedly quarrelled over seating. Elders from both groups intervened, but the confrontation escalated. Both sides later reached the police station. Police are also examining whether the clash had a political background, since Sheikh was a sitting Shiv Sena councillor and Pathan was married to an NCP councillor. No political motive has been established so far. Police stepped up deployment across Deulgaon Raja after the killings.
