The Mahayuti government has announced the creation of 904 temporary positions across various offices. This includes 164 posts designated for the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), 72 each for the offices of the deputy chief ministers, and 16 positions allocated for each cabinet minister. Additionally, ministers of state will have a staff complement of 14 each. These appointments are part of the government’s efforts to enhance administrative efficiency and support.
State govt’s order said this process had to be completed by all ministers by Sept 10. “The ministerial staff of 16 is insufficient to carry out constituency work, legislative responses, hearings, and to resolve the problems of the relevant departments. With several ministers appointing officers in their departments in Mantralaya on loan from other departments, and even through oral orders without taking any approvals from the chief secretary or the CM, the state govt had issued orders to immediately cancel appointments of officials working in ministers’ offices on loan or on verbal orders and start the process of sending these officials back to their original departments. However, ministers aren’t happy with the order. So, additional staff were recruited on loan from other departments or through oral orders. A govt resolution (GR) stated that without taking approvals from the CM, officers are being appointed directly on a contract basis or externally based on verbal orders. “This includes technical officials like doctors, stenographers, teachers, engineers, etc in large numbers. Since the appointed officers do not have any training or work experience in the work of the ministry, it directly affects the work of the ministry and disrupts the administrative functioning,” the GR states. The GR states that if there is an urgent need for more officers in a minister’s office, then they must submit a proposal to CM Devendra Fadnavis . “If officers are to be appointed to the ministerial department, then a proposal must be submitted through the chief secretary to the CM. Officers should not be appointed on a loan basis or through verbal orders,” the GR states.
