The deceased, identified as Aditya Rawate (22), had been suffering from epileptic seizures (fits) since childhood and was undergoing medication for the condition.
He was also taking medicines to lighten his skin complexion, prompting questions about whether an overdose or adverse reaction to these drugs may have contributed to his death, according to his family. Rawate’s body was found in a room at his residence in Ashti on September 15.
Family members told police that, despite having a history of seizures, he was also consuming medication intended to make his complexion fairer. After being informed by family members, police rushed to the spot and noticed bleeding from his eyes. The body was sent for post-mortem examination. Rawate had earned his BAMS degree from Nashik and had recently begun practising medicine in Ashti. His untimely death has shocked residents of the village. Investigators will examine whether these medicines had any connection to his death once the medical and forensic reports are available.
Police have launched an investigation into the case from all possible angles.
His death is suspected to be linked to asphyxiation and cardiac complications, according to preliminary post-mortem findings. Police said Rawate’s family has not raised suspicion against any individual in connection with the death. However, the exact cause of death will be determined only after the final post-mortem report is received. Walgaon police have registered an accidental death case and are continuing their investigation.
